Prime Minister has given mandate to the Immigration Minister today to focus and prioritize work to Strengthen the Canada’s Immigration and refugee system. He has given the following targets and asked to accomplish results for Canadians and set the following priorities:
1. Clear Backlog - Improve Processing Times
Decrease application processing times, including those applications that have been affected by COVID-19 delays.
2. Family Reunification
Work to fortify family reunification by bringing in electronic applications for family reunification and bring out a program to give temporary residence status to spouses and children abroad while they wait for the processing of their permanent residency application.
3. Citizenship Application Fee Waiver
Make the citizenship application free for permanent residents who have satisfied the requirements.

4. Expand Permanent Residency Pathways under Express Entry System
Expand pathways to Permanent Residence for International Students and Temporary Foreign Workers through the Express Entry framework.
5. Expand Pilot Programs
Make sure that immigration better supports the small communities at regional level and to further develop and extend the Pilot Programs including Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, pushing ahead on the Municipal Nominee Program and making the Atlantic Immigration Pilot a long-lasting system.
Expanding on the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot, work with employers and communities across Canada to welcome 2,000 skilled refugees to fill labor shortage in most sought-after areas, for example health care.
6. Regularize Undocumented Immigrants
Build and develop existing pilot programs to regularize the status for undocumented workers who are contributing to Canadian Communities.
7. Continue to bring new comers as per plan
Keep working on to implement the plan to bring in newcomers to Canada to drive economic growth and recovery as set out in the Immigration plan of 2021 -2023.
We hope that Immigration Minister and IRCC will be able to follow the guidelines given by the Prime Minister and bring these changes into effect in the coming new year.
