Are you planning to move from Canada to Australia?
Here are a few tips and things to know

Snow covered roads, houses, trees, buildings and surroundings sometimes trigger a wave of boredom in life. People often search for alternative solutions and decide on moving to warmer places. Relaxed, affordable lifestyle coupled with sunny beaches and work opportunities and working holidays compel Canadians to migrate to Australia. Wait, before jumping to conclusions it would be great to consider a few things before making a move from Canada to Australia.

A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE MAKING THIS BIG MOVE TO AUSTRALIA:

Australia has 6 states and 2 territories. Each state and territory has a designated capital. Australia has a beautiful landscape where you can ski and surf on the same day.

Choosing the right city to live:

Sydney (New South Wales), Melbourne (Victoria), Canberra (Australian Capital Territory), Perth (Western Australia), Brisbane (Queensland) and Adelaide (South Australia) are most popular cities in Australia. Sydney and Melbourne are expensive as theyare prominent job markets. Canberra, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane are also emerging with prominent job opportunities too. Choosing the right city requires you to consider various factors from job market to cost of living and from weather to good school districts.

Sydney accounts for 1/3rd of the employment in Australia’s finance industry as 65% of the finance industry is in Sydney. Melbourne is listed as the second most liveable city in the world as per the Economist’s 2018 Global Liveability Index. Canberra has its own charm with hot air balloon rides and exceptional wineries. Adelaide is a festival central with colorful food and bar culture. Perth is known for active outdoor lifestyle well suited for Canadians. Brisbane is known for its beaches and warm climate and is called “The Sunshine State”. So choose the city where you wish to live in Australia based on your preferences.

If you are nominated, then it is quintessential that your occupation must be listed in the eligible skilled occupation list. It is also crucial for you and your family to fulfill all the health and character requirements.

The Skilled Independent visa lets those workersunder 45 years of age with exceptional skills needed in Australia to live and work permanently in Australia.

Job Websites:

There are scores of job websites to look out for good jobs. Some of them are Seek, Career One, Job Search and Jora Australia.

Recruitment Consultants:

You can seek help from the Recruitment consultants and place your CV with them. Focus on agencies advertising jobs in your field of expertise.

Bagpacker jobs:

Being a Canadian, if you wish to enjoy a gap year, Australia is the best country for youngsters like you. Most travelers prefer working holiday to afford travelling around Australia for 12 months or more.

Australian Tax Paying:

A work visa and a Tax File Number (TFN) is needed for foreign residents to work in Australia. The financial year runs from 1st July to 30th June of the succeeding year. Your income decides the amount of tax that you need to pay. The Federal Government requires you to pay tax if your income exceeds $18,200 in a financial year. The tax rates for Australian residents and Non-residents differ.

Tax is levied for temporary residents only on the income earned from Australian source income.

Superannuation for Foreign Residents:

Superannuation is an amount paid by the employer into a fund accessible only after retirement. All the workers in Australia, residents and non-residents are entitled to superannuation with an intent to save for retirement. Employees over the age of 18 and earning more than $450 receive a minimum of 9.5% of pre-tax earnings transferred towards their superannuation fund.

Medicare and Health Insurance in Australia:

Leaving your home country and moving to another will also attract medical expenses. Australian Health care and public health care system are excellent. Medical costs are subsidized for Australian residents and the residents of the countries with whom Australia has a Reciprocal agreement.

Australia has a government funded health care system (MEDICARE) and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). While Medicare provides for free hospital care, rebated doctor visits and subsidy on the essential medicines. Citizens and Australian residents can benefit from Medicare. PBS has a wide range of medicines that the Australian government subsidizes.

Cost of Living in Australia:

Cost of living is an important factor to consider while moving to another country. The cost of living in Australia is higher in comparison to most of the countries in the world. On the contrary, Canadians may find it cheaper to live in Australia. The cost of living in Australia (without considering the rent factor) is 10. 44% lower than Canada whereas average rent in Canada is 18.75% lower than Australia.

Kids Education in Australia:

Australian education system is top notch and there are scores of state funded primary and high schools in Australia. Fees are minimal for locals in public schools whereas newly arrived migrant children are subject to fees by the state government. Private schools are also available everywhere.

Moving with Belongings and Petsto Australia:

Canada is quite far from Australia and therefore transferring your belongings can be a tedious job. You cannot ship an entire household as it is an expensive affair. Compare quotes from various vendors and then choose the best shipping option. Pets are subject to quarantine laws and therefore have to be quarantined for 190 days. Australia also has high costing insurance for the pets. Australian laws are stringent when it comes to prohibiting the entry of firearm and dangerous weapons.

Bushfires are common:

On an average, there are 50,000 bushfires every year. This is due to the dry vegetation and high temperatures which is quite common in Australia. Sometimes lightning storms are also responsible for these bushfires and they wreak havoc destroying wildlife, building and at times people too.

CONCLUSION:

Australians love cars. People love long drives. Public transport is also excellent with buses, light rails, trains and ferries. What more can you ask for? A whole new world awaits you with sprawling suburbs, picturesque landscape and fantastic opportunities with an experience of a lifetime like a new breathe of fragrant fresh air. Melbourne is cold but nothing in comparison to the Canadian winter. So my dear friends, kindly run through the above mentioned factors before deciding on moving to Australia from Canada.

Had a nice experience with the CanOz team. Applied for PR with them. My case was different as I lost my passport while the application was in process. Had to explain to IRCC and request for PNP point transfer and all. The team did the necessary things to make sure my application would not get rejected. Harsimrat ma’m really understood my situation and were supportive throughout the process. Thank you team!

My Australian PR application took about 5 years to reach an outcome. It was a bit of a complicated case and I might have lost hope had Baksh not been my migration agent. By the time I got introduced to Baksh I had already tried a couple of popular agents and got frustrated by the lack of transparency they demonstrated. Baksh was the polar opposite to those money grabbers. He was always clear with his suggestions, had excellent knowledge of the system and his advice helped navigate through complexities with so much ease. The payments were always discussed and was clarified too. An absolute gem of a professional. By the time I received 2 invites in 2022, I trusted Baksh’s recommendation and opted to go for 189 albeit being more complicated than a 491. I am so glad I did. I cannot recommend Baksh and Canoz enough.
