WHAT IS TEMPORARY GRADUATE VISA SUBCLASS 485?

The Temporary Graduate Visa Subclass 485 visa is designed to allow foreign nationals graduated from Australian educational institutions and highly skilled professional to come and work in Australia. These professional skills have to be in high demand in the Australian markets. There are 2 streams to this Subclass 485 visa. They are:

Graduate work stream:This stream is for the international students who have graduated from a recognized Australian educational institution. These students should also possess the skills related to an occupation specified in the Skills Occupation List (SOL). This stream specifies the validity of the Subclass 485 visa for a span of 18 months.
Post-Study Work stream: This stream is for the overseas students who have graduated with a higher degree (bachelors, masters or doctoral) from a recognized Australian educational institution or a provider. This stream allows students to stay and find work for a period of maximum of 4 years in Australia. However, only those international students who have successfully received their first Australian visa on or after 5^th Nov 2011 are eligible to apply under this stream.

WHAT SORT OF WORK IS PERMITTED TO DO ON THIS VISA?

The Subclass 485 visa does neither restrict you on the type of work you are willing to do nor restricts the number of hours you are willing to work for.

IS EMPLOYER SPONSORSHIP NEEDED TO OBTAIN THIS VISA?

VISA REQUIREMENTS/ ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR SUBCLASS 485 VISA:

An applicant/student willing to apply for this visa has to fulfill certain requirements. At the time of applying for this visa, the applicant should comply with the below mentioned requirements.

It is quintessential for the applicant to be in Australia while applying for the visa.
The applicant must be below the age of 50 years while applying for this visa.
The applicant must hold a valid/eligible visa.
The applicant must hold or have held an eligible student visa in the last 6 months.(The applicant must have recently completed his/her education from a CRICOS registered Australian institute).
The applicant must provide evidence of competent English.
The applicant is bound to fulfil the character and health requirements (health examinations).
The applicant should have an Australian Health Insurance Policy in place.
The applicant is under a legal obligation to request a National Police check from the Australian Federal Police.

SOME ADDITIONAL VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATE WORK STREAM:

At the time of applying for this visa, the applicant/ student should comply with the below mentioned requirements.

An occupation must be nominated by the applicant on the Skilled Occupation list.
The applicant should have also applied for the skills assessment in the occupation nominated by you.
The Australian study requirements must be met by the applicant in the last 6 months. There should be an absolute close relation between your nominated occupation and the degree, diploma or the trade qualification pursued to meet the Australian study requirement.

SOME ADDITIONAL VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR POST STUDY WORK STREAM:

At the time of applying for this visa, the applicant/ student should comply with the below mentioned requirements.

The applicant must have applied for and has successfully received his/her first Australian student visa on or after 5^th Nov 2011 is eligible to apply under this stream.
The Australian study requirements must be met by the applicant in the last 6 months. The study requirement must be on the basis of bachelors, masters or doctoral degree studies completed at a recognized Australian institution.
