The Skilled -Independent visa subclass 189 for New Zealand Stream is designed for the eligible New Zealand citizens who are highly skilled and who haveshowcased commitment and contribution to the Australian economy to live and work in Australia.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR POINTS TESTED STREAM:

One must have lodged an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Skillset program of the Department of Immigration and have and must have been invited to Apply to be eligible to apply for a Skilled Independent Visa subclass 189.

To be eligible to be granted a visa, at the time you are Invited to Apply you must:

  • Be under the age of 45 years.
  • Have nominated an occupation listed in the Skills Occupation List (SOL).
  • Have your skills assessed for your nominated occupation by an appropriate Australian skills assessing authority so specified.
  • Have a competent level of English
  • Have scored on the relevant point test at least 65 points to be eligible.
  • Have met the necessary health and character requirements.

This list is not an exhaustive one. A few more requirements may also apply based on the facts and circumstances of each and every application.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR NEW ZEALAND STREAM:

To be eligible to be granted a visa, you must:

  • Hold a New Zealand Special Category visa subclass 444. (This visa allows a citizen of New Zealand to stay and work in Australia for a temporary period. It is mandatory that the holder of this visa should be a citizen of New Zealand.)
  • Have lived for at least 5 years in Australia.
  • Have started living in Australia on or before 19th February 2016.
  • Have a taxable income (in most of the cases). This income is required to be at or above the specific income threshold for every year in the past 4 completed income years. This requirement must be fulfilled before lodging an application.

PROCESSING TIME:

The Processing Time for International invited workers varies based on the facts and circumstances of their application. Usually, 75% applications under this visa for Points tested stream require 12 months for processing. 90% applications under this category require 12 months for processing.

The Processing Time for New Zealand Stream (Skilled Independent visa subclass 189) is as follows:

75% applications for the New Zealand Stream under this visa require 13 months for processing.
90% applications for the New Zealand Stream under this visa require 17 months to process.

The cost involved in processing this Skilled Independent Visa subclass 189 starts from AUD 4,045 for the main applicant in the Points Tested stream.
