Planning to move to Ontario? Know more about the OINP

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in Canada is an immigration program that allows individual provinces and territories within Canada to nominate people for permanent residence based on their specific economic, labor market, and demographic needs. The PNP is one of the ways through which Canada manages its immigration system alongside the federal Express Entry system.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program falls under the Canada PNP.

Understanding the OINP

Canada’s welcoming attitude towards immigrants has made it a top destination for people seeking a new life and opportunities. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is a pivotal pathway for individuals and families looking to settle in Ontario, Canada’s most populous and economically vibrant province.

The OINP is an immigration program that enables Ontario to nominate individuals and their families for permanent residence in Canada. It is tailored to meet the province’s specific labor market and economic needs, making it an attractive option for those looking to establish themselves in Ontario.

What categories fall under the OINP?

Ontario has several categories within the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) for eligible candidates. These categories are as follows:

  1. Employer Job Offer Category: Under the Employer Job Offer stream, Ontario employers can nominate foreign workers and international students for permanent residence. This stream is divided into three subcategories.
  • Foreign Worker stream – if you are a skilled foreign worker with a job offer in Ontario.
  • International Student stream – if you are a recent graduate with a job offer in Ontario.
  • In-Demand Skills stream – if you are a foreign worker in an in-demand occupation with a job offer in Ontario.

2. Masters Graduate stream: if you have a Masters degree from an Ontario university.

3. PhD Graduate stream: If you have a PhD degree from an Ontario university.

4. Human Capital Priorities stream: The Human Capital Category is often aligned with the federal Express Entry system, making it a streamlined pathway to Canadian permanent residence for eligible candidates. Under this stream there are three categories.

  • Human Capital Priorities stream – This stream includes the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The Federal Skilled Worker Program is for skilled workers with work experience who want to become permanent residents. The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers with Canadian work experience who want to become permanent residents.
  • Skilled Trades stream – if you are a foreign worker with Ontario work experience in an eligible skilled trade.
  • French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream – if you are a French-speaking foreign worker with strong English language abilities.

5. Entrepreneur stream: Ideal for individuals looking to start or purchase a business in Ontario and actively manage it. This stream operates through an Expression of Interest system.
