You must be a citizen of and hold a valid passport from one of these countries/jurisdictions:

Eligibility

  1. At the time of application, you must be within the eligible age limit for your passport country:
  • Canada – 18 to 35 years
  • Belgium – 18 to 30 years
  • Republic of Cyprus – 18 to 30 years
  • Denmark – 18 to 35 years
  • Estonia – 18 to 30 years
  • Finland – 18 to 30 years
  • France – 18 to 35 years
  • Germany – 18 to 30 years
  • Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China – 18 to 30 years
  • Republic of Ireland – 18 to 35 years
  • Italy – 18 to 35 years
  • Japan – 18 to 30 years
  • Republic of Korea – 18 to 30 years
  • Malta – 18 to 30 years
  • Netherlands – 18 to 30 years
  • Norway – 18 to 30 years
  • Sweden – 18 to 30 years
  • Taiwan (other than an official or diplomatic passport) – 18 to 30 years
  • The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (including British National Overseas passport holders) – 18 to 35 years
  1. You must not have previously entered Australia on a:
  • Working Holiday visa (subclass 417)
  • Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462)
  1. You must meet health and character requirements, which may include a medical examination and a police clearance certificate.
  2. Evidence that you have enough money for your trip (around CAD $4,517 or AUD $5,000) along with evidence that you have enough money to leave Australia or evidence of a an already purchased departure ticket.
  3. You can’t be accompanied by dependent children while you are in Australia on this visa.
  4. Not had a visa cancelled or an application refused

You'll also need to gather different documents such as:

  • the photo page of your passport, which includes personal details and your passport issue and expiry dates
  • a copy of your birth certificate, complete with both parents’ names
  • police certificates for your home country and any other country you’ve spent more than 12 months in
  • military service records or discharge papers if you served in the armed forces of any country

Cost

Aside from showing the proof of funds,  you will need to pay an application fee of $574 (AUD$635). 

Is a longer stay possible after the First Working Holiday Visa?

The Second and Third Working Holiday Visas in Australia are visa extensions that allow eligible individuals on a Working Holiday Visa to extend their stay and work in Australia for additional periods.

For the second Working Holiday Visa: You can work for up to 12 months and study for up to 4 months. However, you can only apply if you have completed at least 3 months of specified work while holding your first Working Holiday visa.

For the third Working holiday Visa: You can work for up to 12 months and study for up to 4 months. However, you can only participate if you completed at least 6 months of specified work while holding your second Working Holiday visa.

The other eligibility criteria mentioned above regarding finances, age, etc. should also be met in order to apply for Second and Third Working Holiday Visa.
