Parents and Grandparents Program Update 2023
On October 10, IRCC started sending invitations to apply for the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program (PGP) for 2023. For the next two weeks, IRCC will send invitations to apply to 24,200 interested potential sponsors. These ITAs will be sent to randomly selected potential sponsors from the remaining 2020 pool of submissions.
What is the Parents and Grandparents Program?
The Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program in Canada is an immigration initiative that allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to become permanent residents in Canada. This program is part of the broader family reunification efforts in Canada, aiming to facilitate the reunification of families and promote social cohesion.
What is the eligibility for Canada Parents and Grandparents Program?
You can sponsor your own biological or adopted parents and grandparents if
- you’re invited to apply
- you’re at least 18 years old
- you live in Canada
- you’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
- you have enough money to support the people you want to sponsor
- you and your parents and grandparents meet all other requirements under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations

How much is the fee?
The fee for Parents and Grandparents sponsorship in 2023 is $1,080.
Who will be sent an invitation to apply for Canada PGP 2023?
Invitations to apply will be sent to randomly selected potential sponsors from the remaining 2020 pool of submissions. This is due to the number of forms remaining in the pool of submissions from 2020.
Thus, if you submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 but did not receive an invitation to apply in 2021 or 2022, the IRCC has urged you to check the email account you provided in 2020.
Those invited to apply as part of the 2023 intake will continue to use the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal, which allow applications to be submitted electronically.
What if you’re not considered for the Canada PNP this year?
Those who are not invited this year may consider having their parents or grandparents apply for a Super Visa, which is a multiple-entry visa that is valid for up to 10 years.
The Super Visa of Canada is a multiple-entry visa that allows the holder to enter Canada for ten years with multiple entries. The holder of the Super Visa can stay for a maximum of five years each time with this visa. Extending their stay by up to 2 years without departing the country is also an option.
