IRCC Holds Express Entry Draw After A Long Delay; Invites 4750 Candidates

December 6, 2023BY Anindita Banerjee

Express Entry Results

IRCC held Express Entry Draw today after October 2023!

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held the latest Express Entry draw on December 6. A total of 4750 invitations to apply (ITAs) were issued to candidates for this ‘No Program Specified’ round.  The minimum Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) was 561.

This draw saw a higher number of invites as compared to the previous draw on October 26. The CRS score saw a jump as there had been no draws ever since due to technical glitches in the profile builder.

Which program was targeted for this draw?

Since there was no program specified for this draw, invitations to apply may be issued to candidates from the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Provincial Nominee Program.

A look at the previous draws

This marks the first draw since October 26, with IRCC notifying on November 14 that certain applicants encountered difficulties using the Express Entry Profile Builder, leading to an inability to submit their applications.

On November 16, the department confirmed through a tweet that the issue had been resolved.

In October, IRCC had issued three back-to-back draws in the last week. The latest one before today’s draw was on October 26 where 3,600 candidates received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a category-based selection draw focusing on healthcare occupations. Applicants needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 431.

Prior to that, on October 25, IRCC extended invitations to 300 candidates in a category-based selection draw targeting those showcasing French-speaking proficiency. A minimum CRS score of 486 was required for consideration.

And even prior to that, on October 24, IRCC issued invitations to 1,548 candidates in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-exclusive draw. Candidates needed a minimum score of 776.

Explaining Express Entry

Express Entry is a competitive immigration system implemented by the Government of Canada to manage and process applications for permanent residency from skilled foreign workers. It aims to attract and select highly qualified individuals who have the potential to contribute to Canada’s economy and society.

The first-ever category-based draw was held on June 28 this year and before that candidates were assessed based on their human capital factors including work experience, professional fields, language skills, education, and age. They were then ranked using an assigned CRS score. After each draw, candidates with the highest CRS scores (according to the cut-off) are issued ITAs, allowing them to apply for permanent residency.

To align with labor market needs and promote the French language, IRCC introduced new category-based selection criteria on May 31. The six new categories include:

  • Healthcare
  • STEM professions
  • Trades
  • Transport
  • Agriculture and agri-food
  • French-language proficiency
