November 20, 2023BY Anindita Banerjee

Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program

Saskatchewan announced that it will be expanding the requirements for workers who apply for permanent residency

Recently, Saskatchewan announced that the requirements for workers who apply for permanent residency (PR) through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) will be expanded.

This is being done in an effort to welcome more immigrants who are looking to come to the province as permanent residents. According to the announcement, The Existing Work Permit stream will now be available to certain work permit holders working in Saskatchewan in intermediate and lower-skilled occupations to apply for permanent residency.

What Occupations Will Be Eligible Under This Expansion?

Previously, only newcomers in high-skilled occupations and designated trades were eligible for the Existing Work Permit stream. With this skill expansion to include lower- and intermediate-skilled sectors, newly eligible workers can now pursue permanent residency provided they have worked in Saskatchewan and meet the remaining program criteria, which includes meeting language requirements and having a permanent, full-time job offer.

Permit holders can now apply in an additional 279 occupations, including farm labourers, truck drivers, retail sales, nurse aides, and equipment operators.

What Are The Eligibility Requirements?

To apply under the new expanded stream, applicants must have:

  • Qualifying permits include an open work permit/LMIA-supported work permit, francophone mobility work permit, or CUAET visa.
  • Have a valid SINP job approval letter.
  • Accumulate six months (780 hours) of full-time work experience in the specified job mentioned in the job approval letter.
  • Attain a CLB score of at least 4 if your job falls within a TEER 4 or 5 occupation.
  • If your occupation is regulated in Saskatchewan, actively obtain an eligible Saskatchewan licensure.

The following cannot apply through this sub-category:

  • Refugee claimants in Canada who are claiming refugee status from the Government of Canada.
  • Health professionals (you must apply to the SINP Health Professional sub-category).
  • Food and Beverage Servers/Persons (you must apply under the Hospitality Sector Project sub-category).
